It doesn’t take long into the new year to sort of give up on our resolutions.
Life is busy, homeschool gets tough and old characteristics are always much easier to revert back to right?
I am not that big on resolutions, only because I believe we should be trying to better ourselves all year, not just when the numbers change.
But I have compiled a list of my 2019 homeschool resolutions.
I hope and pray that they will be a blessing to you.
Stop Nagging – Hey my name is Jackie aka Mama bear and I sometimes can come off as a nag to my husband and to my sons and thats really not okay. Of course it is frustrating when I have to tell my eight year old for the 100th time to finish his copy work, but that doesn’t justify the nag. Would you want to be taught by a nag ? I know I sure wouldn’t. So in 2019 by Gods grace I will try to nag less and love more.
I will spend time working on my heart each day- Let’s face it, we’re pulled in 1,000 directions every minute. I often find myself frazzled and without patience. This is my biggest insecurity and leads to me yelling too much. I find that I’m most drained when I haven’t spent any time in prayer. It doesn’t have to be for hours, but I cannot pour from an empty spiritual cup. So in order for me to work on my four sons hearts, I must first work on mine.
Listen more, dance more, put my phone down more – I want my cubs to remember me as a mama who listened to their hearts and laughter, not out of obligation, but out of love. I want them to remember dance parties in the kitchen. And I want them to know, in their core, that they are not just loved, but enjoyed.I truly love being with my boys. Of course they can get on my nerves, but man I am so blessed by them. It is an honor being with them all day long, not a burden.
Read everyday – Yes that seems tough, but with Sonlight Curriculum it isn’t ! They are a literature based curriculum that puts together the most classic novels for us to read aloud every day. Some of our best times are disconnected and just reading together as a family. That is one of my favorite things about Sonlight.
I think sometimes as mamas we tend to over think and over complicate things,
and homeschool is the same.
I really want to focus on why I started this journey in the first place.
It wasn’t to rush through lessons and check things off of a to do list.
It was to evangelize.
To was to truly be present every single day to my boys.
I hope that you all are having a wonderful start to your new year.
